Nissan picks Turner & Townsend for Russian factory

29 Aug 12 Turner & Townsend has been appointed as cost manager for the €167m (£132m) expansion of Nissan’s St Petersburg manufacturing plant.

Nissan currently produces three models of car out of St Petersburg - the Teana Sedan, X-Trail SUV and Murano Crossover. It intends to produce 100,000 cars per year from St Petersburg, including the next generation Qashqai. Nissan is targeting a 10% share of the rapidly growing Russian market by 2016 (up from 5.9% today). It intends to achieve this by tripling annual sales from the 2011 total of 161,000 units.

Turner & Townsend will be providing cost management services to the project, which involves the building of an additional 50,000m2 of production space as well as the creation of new press and plastics shops. Turner & Townsend will be focusing on the delivery of the manufacturing plant expansion on budget and on time.

“It is a pleasure to be working with Nissan on their St Petersburg expansion, which involves an investment of €167 million and will see their production capacity double,” said  Turner & Townsend general director Russia and CIS Paul Grace. “Turner & Townsend’s role as cost managers will be to work alongside Nissan and their developers every step of the way as they expand their capacity, from our initial procurement, tendering and contracts facilitation to the ongoing costs reporting, valuations and checks of completed works.”
