New name for hard-to-say architects
Architect firm WCEC is rebranding as Whittam Cox Architects.

The practice was founded 45 years ago as Whittam & Cox, by Jeff Whittam and Derek Cox. It became Whittam Cox Ellis Clayton after a merger in 1985.
“During the early 1990s the two companies subsequently separated and a new generation of ownership emerged through Alex Wall, Ashley Turner and James Kemp,” says director Nick Riley.
“At this time the practice became known as WCEC Architects; a shorter name, but one which has proven difficult to say and remember for some,” he adds, explaining the key reason for the rebranding.
Chief executive Ashley Turner said: “This is an exciting time for us. We wanted a fresh brand that represented our heritage, our people and our approach.”
The firm is based in Chesterfield, with offices in London and Leeds.
