Saudi Arabia to build 16,000 hotel rooms

24 Apr 15 Saudi Arabian cities are forecast gain 16,000 new hotel rooms by 2018, according to a new report by Jones Lang LaSalle.

Of these, more than 50% will be part of new 5-star hotel developments, as international hotel brands expand, according to Riyadh local authority, the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh. The number of rooms in Jeddah is expected to increase by 2,700 in 2015 alone.

AccorGroup has plans to open up to 10 hotels by 2018, while InterContinental Hotels Group is opening a further nine.

“Saudi Arabia has been one of our strongest markets and a key focus for us within the region since we entered 40 years ago,” said Pascal Gauvin, chief operating office, India, Middle East & Africa at InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

The High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh said that another report published for the Hotel Show Saudi Arabia 2015 identifies the reason for the booming Saudi travel market as being the launch of a new visa that enables pilgrims to visit any city freely.
