After 17 years with SIG, and more than 30 years in construction products sales, Steve Marr has been seconded to be interim chief executive of Construction Product Information Ltd (CPI), the company set up to administer the proposed Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI).

CPI is owned by the Construction Product Association (CPA), which produced the code to put a stop to construction product manufacturers and distributors making misleading or inaccurate claims about their products.

It is the response of the building products sector to Dame Judith Hackitt’s independent review of Building Regulations & Fire Safety, commissioned by the government in the wake of the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire. She made clear that there was a need to address the marketing practices of the sector.

The Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) was written by the Construction Products Association’s Marketing Integrity Group and first published in draft form in January 2021. However, the scheme has still not gone live because CPI has been unable to get professional indemnity insurance, which effectively prevents it from operating. [See our previous report here.]
