Southampton student tower is approved

1 Jul 11 A planning application submitted by Bouygues Development to build a £20m tower block for student accomodation a run-down site in the Swaythling area of Southampton has been approved by the local council.

Southampton City Gateway is planned to be 15 storeys high and provide 360 student beds. The development covers 0.3ha and incorporates a wing on either side of the tower to accommodate relocated shops.

Architect is Crawley-based Fluid.

The existing site encompasses a youth centre that houses the Inner City Boxing Club.  Bouygues Development has committed to providing replacement facilities for the boxing club through relocation, in partnership with the local council.

Bouygues Development is planning to start works on site towards the end of 2011 with completion scheduled for September 2013.
