Willmott Dixon builds new West Norwood fire station

2 Sep 13 Willmott Dixon Construction has won a £5m contract to rebuild West Norwood fire station in south London.

The existing fire station at 445 Norwood Road, built in 1914, is now longer fit for purpose. A Grade II listed building, its modernisation was deemed uneconomic.

The London Fire Brigade has therefore acquired a site for a new fire station and drill tower at 210 Knights Hill, close to the A215 south circular. The site was originally occupied by a two-storey residential care home that has now been demolished.

The new station is expected to be completed by autumn 2014.

The old fire station (pictured below) has been put up for sale.
