The Authority requires a storage solution for existing Nucleic Acid samples, alongside new nucleic samples, requiring storage from 1st April 2025
When confirmed by the Authority in alignment with RCPath guidance, any samples older than 30 years will require safe and confidential disposal with confirmation in the form of an inventory list along with the method of disposal and date. There are about 5,000 vials s from 1995 which would require disposal in January 2026.
Additional to the capacity requirement to store current samples, there is a requirement to store any subsequent years’ samples where there is not capacity in the Authority laboratory to store long term.
