The once iconic store which was relocated to the West Quay shopping complex as John Lewis in September 2000 is now being demolished to make way for the development of the new cultural quarter in the heart of the city, an area that Southampton City Council hope will be alive with arts, heritage, entertainment, events, music and architecture.
The demolition work has been carried out by multi discipline contractors the Cuddy Group who are based in Neath, South Wales, as well as having regional offices around the UK.
Initial work was carried out by Cuddy group's high reach Caterpillar excavator as seen working in this video.

Now with the work in its latter stages just three machines remain on site including a Hyundai 320LC-7A machine, a New Holland 30 ton machine and a hired in JCB JS220 ably assisted by a concrete crusher supplied by Portsmouth based company K&B crushers.
