The JCB 6 was first introduced in 1966, but in 1971 the JCB 6C and 6D entered the market as upgrades. Both machines were powered by a six cylinder 106hp Perkins 6.354 diesel engine. Although the two machines were virtually identical the 6D was fitted with an extra wide undercarriage. These excavators which were state of the art at the time had a maximum digging depth of 22ft and a maximum reach of 31ft.
