Lower Thames Crossing fly-through

Highways England is proposing to build a pair of three-lane tunnels under the Thames to the east of the M25 Dartford Crossing.

The tunnels will be the longest road tunnels in the UK, at 2.4 miles long. And, at more than 50 feet wide, they will be the third-largest bored tunnels in the world.

The whole £6bn Lower Thames Crossing project will create a new, three-lane dual carriageway, 14.5 miles long, connecting the M2 near Rochester and the M25 in Essex between North and South Ockenden.

Highways England is looking to start construction in mid-2021, with completion in 2027.
