Location: Hayes, London (Hybrid)

Salary: Up to £54,525.90

The Lead Engineer will be the responsible individual within the Product Engineering team for tasks pertaining to a specific landing gear product or individual projects within the Engineering department in Hayes. The Lead Engineer will be the primary point of contact for technical issues relating to the specific product / project, providing oversight, tracking and leadership, escalating to Engineering Management as required. The Lead Engineer will also have the responsibility of identifying and developing continuous improvement projects that help both the "engineering system" and the wider company performance at the plant in Hayes.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary Point of Contact to the business for a given product line.
  • With a given product line, supporting new customer development.
  • Development of the cost base, from technical perspective supporting the sale process - use of internal engineering expertise to understand technical scope effect on the standard cost base.
  • Includes Service Bulletin / Service letter costing and charging.
  • Understanding and overview of "standards" for product line.
  • product line trend analysis.
  • Customer Specification overview.
  • Validation of specification upon successful approach, and then with fulfilment / event team ensure Engineering department has all the right information to perform the tasking.
  • POC for validation of customer driven changes from both internal and external questions.
  • Escalation points for other departments when tracking technical issues.
  • Development of technical projects from idea through to completion.
  • Using Engineering expertise to develop challenge and drive projects to successful completion.
  • WBS development, business case, risk management, scheduling and critical path management. Interacting with Engineering and the wider organisation to plan, manage and deliver technical projects.
  • Multi-site interaction with the wider organisation for best practice, learning, technology and expertise transfer projects.
  • Continually develop technical knowledge base for legacy, current and future landing gear types - including those not currently in production at the company.
  • Create detailed project plans and tracking systems to ensure milestones are met.
  • Co-ordination with all levels of the organisation through detailed communication to influence and achieve project buy in. Communicate the project's purpose to ensure awareness and true transparency.
  • Close liaison and communication with all key resource owners.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Degree qualified, ideally in Aeronautical/Aerospace discipline, however wider Mechanical Engineering disciplines will be considered. If not degree qualified, wider aviation experience will be taken into account.
  • LEAN qualification desirable however not essential.
  • Recognised qualification in Project Management (e.g. Prince2 / PMP) desirable but not essential. An ability to demonstrate Project Management capabilities is essential.
  • An additional language (German / French) would be useful, but not critical.
  • Experience of defining and leading technical projects within the aviation industry.
  • Candidate should have significant relevant aerospace experience ideally within the aircraft MRO environment.
  • Ideally Landing Gear product knowledge or proven ability to investigate and distil technical data.
  • Understanding of aircraft data system (AMM / IPC / CMM) and its management within an MRP / SERP system (SAP / AMOS for example).
  • Knowledge of Airworthiness regulation, ideally in a 21J / 21G / 145 EASA approved organisation.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, with ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers. A level of customer engagement will be required.
  • Understanding of SAP Engineering systems - Task Lists, MPL, Alternates. Ability to investigate planned / actual / MPL Material Management / Stock management and the MRO processes.
