Cement Innovation and Development Manager - Breedon Group

Full time, permanent position

The Cement Innovation and Development Manager will guide the Cement business into the next generation of technology and growth opportunities. Reporting directly to the Cement Managing Director, this role will have responsibility for seeking out industry and product insight and innovation opportunities already being used or explored by education and/or industry experts. You will have the ability to seek out opportunities and adopt, adapt and improve with the aim of shaping the insight into concepts to influence the business in understanding the opportunities with the aim of obtaining competitor advantage. You will identify trends across a number of direct/indirect competitors to create concepts for exploration within the business.

The successful individual will have a strong inquisitive mindset and will pair strong functional experience in innovation planning with strong leadership skills in influencing senior leaders. This will be a highly autonomous role, where you will need to be highly resilient and be able to prioritise in a fast paced and complex environment. Specifically, it is essential the successful candidate is:

  • Highly skilled at developing relationships for the key purpose of forging collaborative relationships with Industry innovation leaders who have the resource & skills for innovation action.
  • Has sufficient industry knowledge and technical understanding to be able to grasp the challenges and potential solutions facing the industry and future proposals, so then assess viable options for Breedon or otherwise, at pace.
  • Motivated and pro-active in seeking out new contacts, options for exploration outside of current Company locations, both nationally and Internationally.

In general, you will:

  • Be at the forefront of understanding new and emerging concepts and technologies in Cement including cement production, carbon emission reduction, transport, fuel, automation, products etc.
  • Manage multiple concurrent initiatives and projects of varying sizes & complexity.
  • Establish close and collaborative relationships (both internally and externally) to ensure we are working with the best in the business.
  • Relate information gained to contribute to the development of commercially viable options/solutions/products.
  • Provide expert and in-depth research and analysis to the senior management team (SMT).
  • Conducting feasibility studies.
  • Develop a long-term exploration funnel to fuel our innovation pipeline.
  • Develop and apply a world class Innovation Planning toolkit including all stages of primary and secondary research.
  • Managing, collating and evaluating resources/information via the use of performance scorecards/targets/milestones.
  • Lead renovation workstreams to improve production/quality/commercials
  • Evaluating the environmental impact of projects.

Education and Experience:

  • Experienced innovator who can demonstrate their passion and previous experience of product development which has been turned into strategic ideas presented at a board-level along with investment propositions.
  • Have the ability to extract, learn and apply techniques to solve problems in a creative and innovative way.
  • Demonstrate ability to build trust and credibility with key stakeholder to ensure they contribute to ideas and solutions presented are refined accordingly.
  • A self-starter who can autonomously time manage, prioritise, produce, and provide visibility to key outcomes.
  • Able to execute tasks to the best of your ability/experience working with your fellow colleagues.
  • Learning from and working with other disciplines to deliver outstanding outcomes internally and externally.
  • Proven experience of networking across industry, education and subject matter experts to generate innovative thinking and ideas.

The role requires the post holder to undertake regular travel to meet the needs of the role across the UK and Internationally and as such will need to hold a full clean driving license and be flexible in your approach to work.
