Atkins names new MD for Oman

23 Sep 13 Atkins has appointed a new managing director for its operations in Oman, where the company has been working in engineering, design and project management for over 30 years.

Marco Malpiedi joins Atkins from Parsons in the Middle East. His earlier roles in the region, include a period managing activities in Oman for Danish consultancy Cowi and time as Buro Happold’s country director for the UAE.

Malpiedi’s responsibilities at Atkins include the strategic positioning, operational success and delivery of business targets and future growth of operations in Oman. “Atkins has an established, proven team in Oman with a hard won reputation for the quality of its services, which is a great platform for me to start with,” he said. “I’m excited with the challenge of building on this and developing even stronger relationships among our key clients as we look to support the Sultanate’s ambitious national development plans.”

Atkins has worked on some of Oman’s most high-profile projects, including the Barr Al Jissah resort, the Asian Beach Games and The Wave, Muscat. Current key projects include the Alila Jabal Akhdar Hotel, a five-star resort set 2,000m above sea level in the Al Hajar Mountains, and the Sultan Qaboos Sports Academy.
