Bidders for Wakefield housing repair to compete with DLO

26 Nov 10 Three contractors are being sought to share in up to £63m of work in the last stages of a programme to improve social housing in the Wakefield area.

Wakefield and District Housing Ltd (WDH) has already been working on improving its housing stock since 2005. The final stage, which will run for about a year from April 2012, which covers the remaining 3,500 homes of the 31,000 that the organisation looks after.

WDH is looking for three framework contractors for modernisation work consisting of works to kitchens, bathrooms, central heating, rewiring, renewing windows and doors, but may also include associated works and external improvement works.

The anticipated total cost of is in the range of £53m to £63m

However, DLH is ring fencing £13m of the work for its own direct labour organisation, which it is keen to promote, and may keep more of the work in house.
