Birse Rail awarded Slough ‘Access for All’ contract

2 Nov 11 Birse Rail has been awarded a £3.2 million ‘Access for All’ contract for Slough Station by Network Rail.

The design and build contract includes the installation of a new two span footbridge with three new lifts, shafts and plant rooms.   The scope of works also includes cycle shelters, lighting, platform surfacing, ramps, power upgrade, drainage modifications, cable and service diversions together with alterations to the existing station ticket office and toilets to ensure compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

The scheme has been commissioned as part of a Network Rail’s Access for All programme – a national programme to provide step-free access at railway stations throughout the UK.

Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Rail, Peter Anderson commented: “We are delighted to be awarded this project for improvements at Slough Station and look forward to continuing to work with Network Rail to assist in the successful delivery of its Access for All programme.”
