Biwater quits the UK water industry

22 Nov 10 Biwater Holdings is selling its UK-based subsidiary Biwater Services Ltd to MWH Constructors, the UK arm of MWH Global Inc. The sale is part of a change in strategy at Biwater to get out of the UK market and focus on export and project financed projects overseas.

The sale includes all three divisions of Biwater Services: Biwater Treatment Ltd, Farrer Consulting Ltd and BiProduct Recovery Ltd.

Biwater Treatment designs and manages the construction of water and wastewater treatment plants for regulated water companies across the UK.

Farrer Consulting provides construction design and asset management consulting to the water & wastewater, highways and rail sectors.

BiProduct Recovery was set up in 2008 to provide waste recovery and recycling services designed to exploit the beneficial properties of industrial by-products in energy generation, agriculture and brownfield site restoration.

Biwater Services chairman Bernard Armstrong said: “We believe that a combination with MWH Global enhances our strong position in the UK water market and strengthens our service offering to our clients. We believe this combination will significantly benefit our longstanding clients during the current and future AMP cycles.”

The sale by Biwater Holdings follows its disposal in July this year of its interest in Cascal NV, the New York Stock Exchange listed operator of water and wastewater treatment plants.
