Speller Metcalfe to expand Stratford Hospital

28 Oct 14 Malvern-based Speller Metcalfe has been confirmed as the main contractor for a £22m redevelopment package at Stratford Hospital following planning approval.

The works make up Phase 1 of a major redevelopment at the Warwickshire community hospital.

Speller Metcalfe will build a new three-storey hospital alongside the existing one – and at 5,700m2 the new building will be almost double the size of the current one. Design is by architect AFL for client South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust.

A new energy centre and 250-space multi-storey car park will also be built.

Speller Metcalfe's contract price is £15.8m.

Joint managing director Steve Speller said: “This will be our third project undertaken for the Trust following the successful completion of a state-of-the-art Neuro Rehabilitation Centre at Leamington Spa Hospital in 2013 and a new three-storey orthopaedic ward for Warwick Hospital, which is currently on site.”

The new hospital incorporates a cancer unit, doubling the Trust’s capacity to provide cancer services, and a new eye unit, providing facilities for retinal surgery and an outpatient suite with examination, treatment and injection rooms.
