Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust requires a reactive service for gritting and snow clearance across Kent and one site in East Sussex and to this end has generated this specification with the intention of tendering for these duties with an external experienced contractor. This winning provider will be expected to operate between the hours of 7pm – 7am Monday to Sunday, including out of hours and emergency calls (Bank holiday and weekends).

A key objective of this tendering exercise is to ensure safe access to property is maintained for staff, patients and visitors and is based on a standard approach and specification.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement

KCHFT requires the provision of a professionally managed gritting, snow and ice clearance service to the premises listed in ANNEX B7 of the tender documents.

The Trust are looking for experienced Contractor.

The Contractor is to monitor the weather forecast on a daily basis from 1st October to 30th April and required to take their guidance via the MET Office Open Site service or other KCHFT approved system.

The Contractor will send a forecast for the week ahead each Friday to the named Facilities Manager and Head of Facilities by e-mail.

Where snow or heavy frost is forecast, the Contractor shall take reasonable preventative measures to maintain safe surfaces for pedestrian and vehicle users. All roads, car parks, pathways, entrances and other affected surface areas of the premises shall be free of snow and ice and kept in an anti-slip condition in accordance with the red line drawings in ANNEX B8. Particular care shall be taken during snow clearance not to damage KCHFT’s property. Snow clearance should start at 50mm .

The Contractor shall attend site to grit or provide snow clearance when an ORANGE or RED warning is issued by the MET Office or agreed system.

The Contractor will not grit more than twice within a 48 hour period.

The Contractor will attend site between 19:00 and 07:00 unless otherwise instructed by KCHFT.
