II.1.4) Short description
The project is for the provision of a new crematorium building at Roselawn Cemetery, Ballygowan Road, Belfast.
The site is located within the curtilage of the existing Roselawn Cemetery and comprises some 18.2 hectares of a grassed field site. The development has three main components:
1. New Crematorium building, comprising of 2no 200 seat Chapels/ceremony rooms with waiting and welfare spaces for funeral services, Crematory for the incineration of human remains and administration block for ancillary function including office, ash collection, staff changing and staff welfare. The building will be set within a woodland setting with tree lined routes leading to dedicated signposted car parking for each Chapel. Parking is provided for 220 cars including accessible provision and electric charging points, all walkways for parking areas are on a level gradient for ease of access.
2. A New Entrance and right- hand turning lane off the Ballygowan Road is designed to provide a dignified formal threshold to the facility and to ensure that there is no unnecessary disruption to the existing roads. New gates and crematorium signage will be set back from the road edge. The new entrance and right hand turning lane is required to be constructed before the main construction work commences on the new crematorium building to facilitate contractor access to the site. The Ballygowan Road is an A class road with a national speed limit of 60mph.
3. The installation of the cremators and associated works. These will be installed by a specialist contractor appointed separately by the Client. The Contractor must allow for all works associated in liaising with, and providing attendances to, the specialist installer to provide a completed facility ready for operation by the Client by the completion date.
