No machine is an island ... well this one is!

We received this photo on our Twitter account last week, and despite the poor quality of the shot, I just had to share it with the Digger Blog readership.

Let’s face it, even by normal UK standards, the weather has been pretty atrocious this year. Ever since the infamous hose pipe ban came into force, it seems to have rained somewhere in the country virtually every day since! Last week Russell Lowton, who is Contracts Director for Devon based BT Jenkins Earthmoving and Plant Hire Ltd, sent me a shot featuring one of their operator’s making a desperate attempt to reach his machine which had become marooned after yet another overnight deluge!

The operator known only as Shaun, is seen paddling out to his Komatsu PC210-8 on a hastily homemade raft to avoid getting a boot full of water first thing in the morning. Rather ironically the machine is actually working on a flood relief scheme here in the West Country! I assume Shaun made it to his mount, but was probably rained off for the day anyway after he had retrieved his machine from the unexpected lagoon.
