Logistics Manager

Job Description

The Logistics Manager plays a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the transport and logistics infrastructure. Reporting to the Construction Manager, the post-holder has responsibility for supporting the delivery of all transport focussed facilities. The project is based on an island, with several moving parts, multiple boats and vehicles with a team of 130, so good logistics is imperative. Key responsibilities/accountabilities: • Responsible for keeping the project moving safely, efficiently and cost effectively, whilst optimising productivity • Responsible for delivering solutions to logistics problems while maintaining high levels of quality and service • Responsible for planning, managing and evaluating all logistics operations (including Hazardous goods) liaising with internal managers, suppliers, logistics/warehouse providers, transportation companies • Responsible for managing all health and safety, risk assessments and method statements related to the logistical undertaking • Responsible for taking delivery of goods and checking materials are as specified and the amount purchased • Responsible for all scheduling of boats for goods, crew, passengers, and visitors • Responsible for keeping the operation within relevant transport legislation and regulation and ensure the appropriate persons are aware of any changes • Responsible for managing marine Freight logistics, utilising knowledge of vessels and all accompanying documentation • Constantly communicating and updating relevant persons of your progress • Responsible for all Transport and Logistics billing and line by line invoice verification • Responsible for resolving problems concerning transportation and logistics systems • Responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with all connected with the logistics process Skills required • Proven management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development • IT Skills required include inventory management, high level of Excel skills (spreadsheet creation and interrogation) • Good written and spoken communication abilities • Highly skilled communicator with the ability to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally • Having good geographical knowledge • Proven analytical, problem solving and organisational skills • Being able to work within a team and remain polite and respectful at all times • Excellent attention to detail • Good planning skills • Being responsible and accountable for your role • Being organised, diligent and methodical • Regular and Reliable Service (SIE does not wish to employ individuals who have a poor history of attendance at work where there is no underlying medical reason for the absence). • Using coordination and working with a team • Self-motivated, flexible and able to perform well under pressure • Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies • Proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere • Pro-active approach - Anticipates and overcomes obstacles • Makes useful links to arrive at insightful plans and solutions • Embraces personal challenges • Confident, rounded thinker • Is resilient, optimistic and facilitator of change • Has a collaborative approach to others • Self-starter and able to motivate others Qualifications and Experience: • Relevant business/commercial degree is preferred, HND, BTEC Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualifications • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar management role • Proficient in standard business office software
