Ferries sail between Cairnryan and Larne in Northern Ireland. The port of Cairnryan has two operational berths but the one that caters for the conventional Ro-Ro ferry service is coming to the end of its operational life and needs replacing.

The existing linkspan will be replaced with a double deck Ro-Ro linkspan that will be able to cater for a wider range of vessels with reduced maintenance requirements.

Work on the project includes land reclamation of 40,000 cubic metres of fill with a rock armour revetment to provide a new approach to the replacement linkspan.

Work is expected to take 15 months to complete.
