£15m specialist housing development starts in Cheam

22 Nov 12 Social housing contractor United House is working with Viridian Housing and the London Borough of Sutton to build 131 new homes seniors in Cheam Village, Surrey.

The development will occupy a 1.1 hectare site bordering Cheam Park and partly within the Cheam Village Conservation Area. The site has provided affordable housing for a number of years but it has been decided that the accommodation is no longer fit for purpose and cannot be refurbished cost-effectively.

The scheme will comprise 116 one- and two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent and shared ownership for residents of the London Borough of Sutton. A further 15 two-bedroom apartments will be built for private sale.

The accommodation is arranged in four blocks with communal facilities.

Completion of the first phase is expected by spring 2014.
