160 jobs go at collapsed electrical contractor Hulse

1 Nov 11 160 staff will lose their jobs following the collapse of electrical contractor Hulse.

The £25m turnover firm, which was founded in 1985, was based at Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands.

Other offices were based in Glasgow, Oxford, and Bristol.

Hulse had worked on the redevelopment of Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham, and had recently been awarded a £1.8m contract on the Waterfront South development in Walsall

It worked with major contractors including Bovis Lend Lease and Laing O’Rourke.

David Bennett and David Dunckley of Grant Thornton are joint administrative receivers of the company.

Bennett said: “Hulse had been suffering cash flow difficulties and although various solutions had been explored by the directors to save the business, none were ultimately successful.”

At the time of the administration the company was being run by managing director Stuart Hulse together with directors John Hulse, Ian Lambert, John Bird and Ricky Cabrey.
