Eleco Timber Frame Provides Time-Efficient Framing Solution for Bowdon Construction.

Eleco Timber Frame®’s patented ElecoFrame® timber frame system has been employed by Bowdon Construction to save construction time on its 61 unit housing project at Meadow Lane, Slaithwaite. The mixed private and social housing development, constructed for house-builder Silent Way Developments, provides detached, semi detached and town house mixed tenure properties near Huddersfield.

ElecoFrame is a value added patented system that has been developed by Eleco for house builders, developers and contractors seeking to minimise construction time, improve site logistics and reduce overall costs. It differs from conventional timber frame, eliminating the use of sheathing boards on the outside of wall panels, by using nail plates and diagonal bracing to provide racking resistance with improved strength and rigidity and uses rigid insulation on the cavity side of the frame to create an efficient warm frame construction.

Used throughout the Meadow Lane development, the innovative nature of the ElecoFrame system ensures faster construction times for Bowdon Construction than traditional timber frame or brick and block methods, through lighter materials and a modular delivery process. In the pre-engineered, made to measure Ecojoist, open web steel nail-plate connectors replace timber webs, and so cut the weight of material used, allowing easier handling on site. In addition, the open-web design of the Ecojoist allows easy access for wiring and pipework with no need for drilling, cutting or routing.

“The ElecoFrame system allows much quicker erection of the superstructure of a building, cutting site time and costs,” comments Bowdon Construction Director Chris Fletcher. “Also, the open panel design allows for additional insulation to be fitted compared to a traditional timber frame solution. This improves both thermal and acoustic performance and helps exceed the requirements for Parts E & L of the building regulations. It’s a very efficient system, and Eleco Timber Frame’s supply chain has been excellent. I’ve had no problems and would definitely work with them again.”
