Morgan Sindall’s construction business Morgan Ashurst has been chosen to build four primary healthcare facilities in Barnsley through the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) programme.
Client for the purpose-built primary care facilities, which have a combined construction value of £13.3 million, is healthcare developer Barnsley Community Solutions.
The £5.7m Hoyland Primary Care Centre in Southgate, will accommodate a GP practice, library and pharmacy, and extensive facilities for district nursing, adult and social services. Morgan Ashurst will demolish an existing library, public house and factory to make way for the new facilities. The centre is due to be completed in October 2011.
At Great Houghton Primary Care Centre, Morgan Ashurst will demolish an existing doctor’s surgery and replace it with a new £1.1m single-storey GP practice. The project is due to be completed in January 2011.
The £3.7m New Lodge Primary Care Centre in Athersley will provide three GP practices, a minor surgery suite and pharmacy. Work on the new centre is set to be completed in February 2011.
At Darton Primary Care Centre in Darton, the new £2.8m two-storey building will house a physiotherapy suite and extensive facilities for children’s and social services.
Morgan Ashurst has already completed five similar primary care facilities in the town for Barnsley Community Solutions, a partnership between NHS Barnsley, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and Community Solutions for Primary Care.
