Access equipment specialist Youngman has announced the launch of two new powered access platforms - to complement its pioneering BoSS X3 micro scissor lift - and announced the introduction of auto breaking as standard on all models.

The two new BoSS X-Series machines follow the same design concept as the BoSS X3, incorporating the original model’s rigid and robust box section steel scissor construction and the housing of all key serviceable components, including the power pack, charger and battery, in a convenient pull out compartment, giving easy access for inspection and maintenance.

The BoSS X2 is the smaller of the two new machines. Featuring a two-scissor pack and powered by a maintenance free 12V/80Ah deep cycle sealed gel battery, this machine has a full 2.01m platform height and takes just 9 seconds to reach maximum extension.

At the top of the range is the new BoSS X3X. Its three scissor pack is longer than that on the original BoSS X3, enabling the lightweight aluminium platform to be pushed to a maximum height of 3.2m in only 15 seconds. The BoSS X3X only weighs 11 kilograms more than the BoSS X3 but offers an additional 200mm platform length and a safe working height of over 5 metres without the need for additional stabilisers

The original BoSS X3 now fits into the middle of the range, with its three scissor configuration giving a platform height of 2.55m

All three machines are CE marked and tested in accordance with EN 280 and the European Machinery, Low Voltage and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directives.

As well as introducing two new models, Youngman has improved the BoSS X3 with the introduction of auto braking as standard. This device (which is fitted to all three
models) prevents any movement of the machine when in use, by automatically applying the brakes to the fixed castors as soon as the operator starts raising the platform. This is a strong safety feature for the BoSS X-series as it prevents people from ‘surfing’ the machines.

Other standard safety features on all BoSS X-series machines include tilt sensor (no additional stabilisers are required); pressure loss valve; overload cut-out; audible alarm on platform descent and, from November, a lanyard fixing point on the deck.

Launched in January 2009, the BoSS X3 marked Youngman Group’s first venture into the highly competitive powered access sector. It’s combination of high quality construction; in-built standard safety features; superb performance and proven reliability have made it a hit with rental operators and end users across Europe.

The BoSS X3 with auto braking is available now, whilst the BoSS X2 and X3X will be available from January 2010.
