A sporting win at Barn Elms for Apollo

24 Oct 11 Apollo has been awarded a £1.5m project to construct a pavilion and carry out pitch improvement work at the Barn Elms playing fields for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

The project, alongside the River Thames in Barnes, will begin later this month and will run until late June 2012.  It will involve work to the tennis courts, cricket nets and multi-use games area, as well as development of the new pavilion, which will replace the existing temporary Portacabins.

Used for a variety of local amateur sports, the Barn Elms fields are located adjacent to the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust’s London Wetland Centre and fisheries, around 40 hectares of land and former reservoirs, which have been converted into a wide range of wetland features and habitats and have been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Divisional Director, Chris Doyle, said:  “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract, which underlines the diversity of Apollo’s expertise and the broad range of projects that we have the skills to deliver.

“We are always aware of and considerate towards neighbours at the sites where we work, but this project will give us the opportunity to show how it is possible to carry out construction work with the minimum of disruption to the local habitat.”
