Aecom team in Sydney rail win

27 Jul 11 An Aecom-led consortium has been appointed to plan and design the the North West Rail Link in Sydney, Australia.

The consortium also includes Parsons Brinckerhoff, Grimshaw Architects and Cox Architects.

The project for the New South Wales government includes six new stations and a 22.4km new line, with 14.4km of tunnels. The new line will help reduce congestion and provide some 300,000 residents in the North West area of the city with direct rail services to places including the central business district.

Under the contract, Aecom is the lead technical advisor with responsibility for engineering, rail systems and architecture. The company will deliver project phases from planning and project definition through to design concept approval, reference design, contract documentation and tender assessment.

"This major award leverages Aecom's multidisciplinary expertise and global experience in rail systems development, and we look forward to supporting the continuing development of the CityRail network."
