It acted as consultant and sustainability advisor to obtain the international BREEAM certification for the completed building of the Coruña The Style Outlets shopping mall, built by Neinver in La Coruña. According to Arup, this was the first BREEAM retail licence ever granted in Spain to a project in the post-production phase.
The BREEAM system of sustainable certification sets the parameters of the environmental impact of a building throughout its life. Arup, as a sustainability advisor, was responsible for obtaining the certification throughout the design phase and the construction phase.
The certificate was obtained according to the BREEAM Europe Retail 2008 standard, which considers several aspects of the project, such as minimising the environmental impact of construction, the recovery of previously developed land, the availability of natural light, energy efficiency and building equipment, including outdoor lighting or reduction in water consumption.
