Balfour Beatty completes delivery of 900 homes

1 Jun 12 Balfour Beatty Communities has completed 310 new homes for the US Army and renovated a further 577.

The on-schedule and on-budget military housing project at Fort Gordon completes a six-year initial development period that launched in 2006. The new construction - completed eight months ahead of schedule - brings the total number of homes managed and maintained by Balfour Beatty Communities at Fort Gordon to 1,080 units.

The construction and renovation costs on this project totaled approximately US$92m and close to 65% of that cost went back into the community through the purchase of local building supplies and the engagement of local subcontractors.

In addition to the new and renovated housing, Balfour Beatty Communities also constructed a 4,200 square foot community centre. Other amenities developed and built for the project include playgrounds, bus stops and two homes for temporary use.

“We are very proud of this project and our ability to offer a variety of both new and renovated housing options to the Soldiers and their families stationed at Fort Gordon,” Balfour Beatty Communities president Chris Williams. “Because of the tremendous teamwork between Balfour Beatty Communities and our Army partners, we are making a significant impact on the quality of life for those living at this installation.”
