Balfour Beatty to fix Weymouth harbour wall

29 Oct 12 Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering (BBRCE) has been appointed by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council to carry out repairs to the harbour wall in Weymouth.

The contract is valued at £3.3m.

BBRCE will replace the existing quay wall with a combi wall, using 14 metre-long, 1,422mm diameter tubular piles and AZ18 sheet piles, a new capping beam and fenders. The contract also includes building works, covered walkways and ancillary works.

Essential upgrades to Weymouth Ferry Berth 3 were identified this summer, resulting in Condor Ferries which operate to the Channel Islands moving its Weymouth service to Poole as a temporary measure while the repairs are carried out.

Work on site is scheduled to start in November 2012 and is scheduled for completion in May next year.
