Bouygues starts on Czech mall

29 Sep 11 A subsidiary of Bouygues Construction has begun work on a €73m (£63m) contract to rebuild and extend a shopping centre in in Prague, Czech Republic.

The contract at Černý Most shopping centre will be carried out by Bouygues Bâtiment International. It is the second largest project Bouygues Construction has ever carried out in the country.

Work includes refurbishing the existing mall and constructing a further 40,000 m² of space devoted to shops, restaurants and cinemas. The floor area will increase by half, boosting the number of businesses that can be housed. The contract was signed between Bouygues Bâtiment International local subsidiary VCES and Unibail-Rodamco.

The centre will remain open seven days a week during the entire construction period. To avoid disturbing customers, the Bouygues Bâtiment International teams will enforce a rigid protocol whereby the renovation of the existing buildings is carried out at night, with new zones built during the day.

The project will last 18 months.
