16 Sep 11 São Paulo’s state highway department Dersa has started the prequalification process for a tender for a stretch of the Rodoanel Mário Covas ring road, which is expected to cost some B$6.51bn (£2.4bn) in total.

The construction cost is approximately R$4.89bn. Work involves building 44km of road, including 111 structures and seven tunnels, the longest of which is 1,650m.

The tender will be split into six packages. Five of the packages are scheduled to take 32 months, while the sixth - the only one without tunnels - will take 26 months. Requests for prequalification have to be submitted by 13 December.

The start of construction is scheduled for March 2012 and the road is due for completion in November 2014.
