Breathing Buildings unveils toolkit for engineers

6 Sep 11 Natural ventilation specialists Breathing Buildings will be presenting an innovative toolkit for mechanical engineers at this years’ Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Technical Symposium, held at De Montfort University in Leicester.

The ‘Whole Building Ventilation Strategy Selection’ toolkit will be presented by David Hamlyn and Daniel Cash, consulting engineers for Breathing Buildings. Created in conjunction with Nuaire, specialists in the design, manufacture and distribution of powered ventilation and air movement solutions, the toolkit is designed to act as a reference for mechanical engineers involved in the design and specification of new buildings, helping them determine the most appropriate ventilation strategy.

In presenting the toolkit David will look at the different approaches to specifying ventilation, demonstrating how the toolkit can assist in the process. Common ventilation issues will also be examined using UK case studies and a variety of models will be used to illustrate the relative savings of the different ventilation options which vary according to climate types.

David says; “I am delighted to be contributing to such a well recognised industry event. With rising energy prices, the need for effective ventilation is increasing. With the help of Nuaire we have put together this toolkit which will not only help fellow mechanical engineers in the specification of efficient ventilation, but will enable them to combine natural and mechanical ventilation elements to produce a more effective system overall, rather than solely using either a mechanical or natural system.”
