Brookfield Multiplex to build homes for 2000 mine workers

3 Jul 12 Brookfield Multiplex Engineering & Infrastructure has been awarded a AU$190m (£124m) contract to design and construct a mine accommodation village in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The 15-month construction of the accommodation village for the multi-billion-dollar Roy Hill mine will create 200 jobs and provide on-site accommodation for both construction workers and future operational mine staff. As part of the contract Brookfield will engage local Australian contractors and businesses and offer employment opportunities to local indigenous communities.

“The Roy Hill Iron Ore project is one of the most significant mining projects in Australia and we look forward to working with the Roy Hill team,” said Brookfield Multiplex regional MD Rainer Rasmussen. “Roy Hill represents the new high-technology face of mining and we will work closely with them to design and create a landscaped mine village which reinforces the unique values and philosophies underpinning the project,” said Mr Rasmussen.

The camp will cater for up to 2,000 workers and include facilities including a sports complex, swimming pool, auditorium and shift change facilities.
