Canada widens highway at US border

11 Aug 16 Canada has announced a CA$25.5m (£15m) highway scheme to support border improvements that have been recently implemented.

The government of Canada is committing just over CA$10m, with CA$15.5m coming from the British Columbia government.

This project is designed to reduce traffic congestion, facilitate better and more streamlined Canada/United States border access for all traffic, and mitigate the impact of border crossing activities on the local road system.

In the southbound direction, the highway will be widened from one to three lanes and it will be widened from one to two lanes in the northbound direction.

The infrastructure improvement project is in the design phase now, with the tender expected in spring 2017.
