Carillion to axe one in three from Energy Services

1 Dec 11 Carillion has put 4,500 employees on redundancy notice because it expects solar panel installation work to collapse in the wake of the feed-in tariff cut.

The entire staff of Carillion Energy Services, most of whom joined when Carillion acquired Eaga for £306m in April, have been warned that their jobs are at risk. A statutory 90-day consultation period has now begun.

It is anticipated that as many as 1500 jobs could finally go.

Carillion said that the reduction in the subsidy paid by taxpayers had made its solar panel business unviable.
