The fountain has not been operational for several years, so having had the damaged concrete screed and original polythene sheet waterproofing membrane removed, specialist contractor, Castle Contracting, replaced it using a Kempertec AC Primer and Kemperol V210 cold-applied liquid waterproofing membrane.
Castle Contracting applied the primer and then the V210 cold-applied waterproofing system directly onto the 750m² concrete bowl. The permanently elastic, seamless and tear-resistant membrane will provide a durable waterproofing barrier that will help to keep both the fountain and the pedestrian subway operational for many years to come.
Originally constructed in 1965, the Fountains Roundabout is a key landmark on one of the main arterial routes into Chester, with a fountain above ground and a pedestrian subway running beneath it.
