The rise was 4.9% in the building sector and 2.6% in civil engineering according to the latest government figures.
Hours worked in construction were up by 2.5%, with an increase of 3.5% in building and 1.2% in civil engineering.
The quarterly cross wages and salaries index in construction increased by 16.2% in the second quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Building construction saw an increase of 17.9% and the rise in civil engineering was 14.4% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
