Construction output falls in third quarter

11 Nov 11 The volume of construction output in Great Britain fell 1.0% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2011.

Output was also 0.2% down on the second quarter 2011, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

However, output for the 12 months to 30 September 2011 was 4.8% up on the previous 12 months.

The third quarter of 2011 saw particularly strong falls in private industrial work (8.4% down on the previous quarter) and in public housebuilding (down 8.2% on the previous quarter). Private commercial output rose 2.4%.

Quarter-on-quarter volume reductions were experienced in six out of nine sectors reported.

All new work fell by 0.6% on the previous quarter and repair & maintenance rose by 0.7%.

Year-on-year, new work fell by 1.8% and repair & maintenance rose by 0.9%.
