Contract let for Helsinki Airport station

16 Oct 12 The Finnish Transport Agency has awarded the largest station construction project on Helsinki’s Ring Rail Line to SRV.

Construction of the €70m (£55m) station at Helsinki Airport will start later this month. SRV has also previously built other projects related to Ring Rail Line.

The airport’s station comprises five buildings located entirely or partly underground. Connection from airport terminals to the railway station, shafts for stairs and elevators and the station interior works are included in the contract. In addition, SRV will build approximately 4.5 kilometres of railway tunnels and about 1km of entrance tunnels, connecting tunnels and tunnels for repair access. The railway tunnel and the station will be sealed, because glycol has been leaked to airport soil, which can weaken concrete and steel structures.

The project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2014. Traffic on the Ring Rail Line will be started in July 2015.
