Contracts awarded for two Singapore stations

29 Apr 16 Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded civils contracts with a combined value of about S$334m (£170m) for the construction of two stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).

Construction of Amber Station has been won by Woh Hup at a contract sum of S$146m while China Jingye Engineering Corporation has won secured the S$188m contract for Bedok South Station. Bedok South Station will also serve as a sixth civil defence shelter along the East Coast stretch of TEL.

The 13km East Coast stretch of the TEL will provide a connection to the city for commuters living in the eastern parts of Singapore and who are not directly served by the rail network. The East Coast stretch will also connect commuters to the Thomson stretch of the TEL, which serves the north-south corridor. The East Coast stretch will have nine stations, including a station which interchanges with the Downtown Line at Sungei Bedok.

The East Coast stretch of the TEL will be completed in two stages. The first seven stations from Tanjong Rhu to Bayshore will be ready in 2023, while the remaining two stations will be completed in 2024.
