Costain to provide cryogenic expertise

3 Aug 11 Costain has won a contract to provide cryogenic expertise on a study for a floating LNG production project in Papua New Guinea.

The work at Flex LNG floating facility will feed in to a design contract that Samsung Heavy Industries recently awarded to a joint venture of KANFA Aragon/WorleyParsons. Costain has been working in partnership with KANFA Aragon for a number of years, delivering studies for LNG floating production, storage and offloading projects.

Costain hydrocarbons and chemicals sector director Frank Millar  said: “First of a kind projects like this bring a range of complex engineering challenges, which require the formation of specialist teams to address them. We are pleased to bring our cryogenic expertise to the team designing the world’s first floating LNG project.”

Managing director of Costain’s Energy & Process division Charles Sweeney said: “The ability to produce LNG at the point of extraction will mean many remote offshore gas fields will become economically viable for the first time. With the global demand for LNG ever-increasing, this technology is set to revolutionise the energy industry.”
