Design contest for Olympic Park's future

1 Aug 11 The Olympic Park Legacy Company has launched a competition to design two new key areas or ‘hubs’ in the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The centrepiece will be a public space in the south plaza and park, situated between the Aquatics Centre, the Stadium, the park’s visitor attraction – the ArcelorMittal Orbit, and the 2012 Gardens.

The vision is that the urban landscape will have a similar feel to London’s South Bank with plans for a visitor centre, outdoor events, water features, art installations, and play facilities including a skate park.

The second area will be set within the green river valley created for the London 2012 Games. This new ‘hub’ for the north park has the potential to include one a playground and a visitor centre with a café and seating terrace, along with a large indoor space available for local schools and community groups.

Teams have five weeks to come forward with expressions of interest to develop these areas that will bring people together through a mix of cultural events and recreational uses when the Park opens in 2013.
