The tram track foundations will be laid using Alstom’s Appitrack machine, which – it is claimed – speeds up the process of laying tram tracks by up to six times and also reduces the of amount noise and dust created compared to traditional track-laying methods.

NET is being extended to serve Wilford and Clifton in the south and Beeston and Chilwell in the southwest of the city.

Foundations are being laid today for 120m length of tram track at a new tram 1,300 space Park & Ride site which is being created near to the Bardills Island on the A52.

Taylor Woodrow Alstom has also placed a significant subcontract with North Midland Construction (NMC) for utilities and civil engineering works on the project. NMC will be diverting and upgrading sewers, utility supplies, telecoms and electric services around the 17.5km of new track being laid to bring trams into Nottingham from Clifton and Chilwell.

Work has just started on site and NMC will be employing up to 30 construction workers on the two year project, some of which will be recruited especially for this project.
