Gifford advises on Nigerian power bid

9 Dec 11 Gifford is advising a consortium bidding to acquire electricity supply and distribution assets through Nigeria’s privatisation programme, which is due to be concluded next year.

Specialist critical systems and energy markets teams together with high voltage power engineers from Ramboll’s Copenhagen office are advising an international consortium headed by Aiteo Energy Resources, which has been shortlisted to bid for most of the 11 government-owned regional electricity companies.

Gifford is advising the consortium on the state of the infrastructure assets to be acquired, how it will be able to deliver an improvement in electricity supply and what further investments will need to be made over the next five years. This will include both the physical distribution network and the business structure to operate it and supply consumers.

Many years of underinvestment means there is a lack of reliable electricity infrastructure at present in Nigeria which is widely considered to be holding back growth.
