Gongs for building bosses

31 Dec 12 Tony Pidgley and Terry Bramall are among construction’s leading lights to be recognised in the New Year Honours list, with each awarded a CBE.

Tony Pidgley is founder and chairman of housebuilder Berkeley Group. Terry Bramall owned Keepmoat until 2007 when he sold it to its management for £783m. Mr Bramall has become a noted philanthropist as well as a Conservative Party donor.

Also recognised with a CBE is Paul Westbury, CEO of consultant Buro Happold, crowning a year of personal achievement that saw him also collect the Institution of Structural Engineers’ Gold Medal award.

Recipients of OBEs included Wendy Blundell, regional director of the Institution of Civil Engineers, low-carbon buildings expert Bill Bordass and BIM boffin Mervyn Richards.

Dave Baker, chief executive of certification body Robust Details, also gets an OBE for services to the construction industry, as does David Bucknall, board chair of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Anne Ganley, managing director of Thompson Building Centres, picked up an OBE, while David Ridgeon, vice chairman of builders’ merchant group Ridgeons, got an MBE.

Among the numerous awards for Olympic competitors and organisers was an OBE for James Bulley, director of venues and infrastructure and the Olympic Park , and an  MBE for David Hickey, head of Olympic Park venues and infrastructure delivery.
