HK materials testing role for Jacobs

20 Jul 11 Jacobs has won a HK$34.6m (£2.75m) contract to manage and operate a construction materials testing laboratory in Hong Kong.

The government’s Public Works Regional Laboratory in Tai Po provides construction material compliance testing services for public sector projects.

It forms part of the Civil Engineering & Development Department series of public works laboratories, which comprise a central laboratory and five regional ones. Jacobs will manage and operate the Tai Po laboratory with 21 lab-based staff for three years.

"We have established a sound, long-term relationship with the Civil Engineering & Development Department, gained through various infrastructure projects,” Jacobs group vice president Tom Quinn. “We are pleased to provide additional capabilities to further support the effective operation of their laboratories, while at the same time adding a new business line to our Hong Kong operations."
