The owner is the Chilean energy utility AES Gener. The scheme follows Hochtief’s work on the hydroelectric power plant La Confluencia in Chile which was completed in 2011 and the Cheves hydropower plant, which is under construction in Peru.

Hochtief Solutions will start the works for the new power plant in Chile in 2013. The project involves two complex construction lots in the Andes, approximately 30km southeast of Santiago at a height of roughly 2,500m. The main elements are the intake structures, a total of 18.5km of tunnelling and a 5km-long steel pipeline. Construction work for the 531-megawatt power plant will be completed in 2017.

Hochtief Solutions executive board member Ullrich Reinke said: "With our know-how and our experienced co-workers in tunneling and power plant construction, we make a major contribution to sustainable energy supplies in high-growth markets."
